The Saffiano Leather Care Guide

Saffiano leather, most famously used by Prada, is one of the fashion industry’s most common leathers. Originated in Italy, and durable and easy to clean, Saffiano is commonly used for handbags and small leather goods.

Read our Open for Vintage care guide to ensure your Saffiano is kept in prime condition.

What to do:

-          Only clean your Saffiano leather using either a genuine leather cleaner or a damp cloth.

-          Whilst Saffiano leather is advertised as ‘water proof’ it is always best to dry down the leather after any water exposure with a clean towel. This will help to maintain the leather quality for longer.

-          Re-protect your bag using leather protection spray or cream every three to four months depending on how much you use it. This will help maintain the condition of the bag, and help it look newer for longer.

-          When you are not using your bag, always store it in its dustbag to protect it. You can also opt to stuff your bag whilst storing it to help ensure it keeps its shape.

What not to do:

-          When cleaning, do not rub the leather too rigorously as this can lead to the colour fading/transferring onto the cloth. This can also damage the grain of the leather, making it appear smoother and flatter.

-          Do not clean your Saffiano leather using bay wipes or harsh household cleaners. These will damage the finish to the leather and can cause the colour to fade.

-          Do not leave your bag in direct sunlight or artificial sources of heat. This can cause damage to the leather shape, as well as cause the colour to fade.
